The Loneliness Nobody Sees

I moved to a brand new country. Left behind everything familiar… family, friends, even my sense of belonging. In this new place, I’ve often felt invisible. Like everyone I’ve known before has forgotten about me, and the new people I meet don’t really see me; don’t really care. I know it’s not true, yet those lies creep in and take hold.

That kind of loneliness is suffocating. It’s not just about being physically alone; it’s about feeling erased. Like your story doesn’t matter anymore.

Just recently, I lost my cat for a few hours. It might sound small to some, but for me, it felt like losing my entire world. While we were searching, I told my husband, “This is your world; you have a place here… but to me, he is my world.” Then I stopped because I realized how far and lost I had become.

I have been struggling to do much of anything. If I’m not forced, I rarely leave the house. The only thing I felt connected to besides my loving husband, who I know loves me without question, was my cat.

This Feeling of Being Forgotten; It’s Real

When you’re in that place, the world feels silent.
- You feel like no one seems to care.
- Your pain feels invisible or insignificant.
- Your heart breaks without anyone holding it.

This is one of the reasons I started Making Us. I understand what it’s like to feel lost and alone. So alone that even the smallest connection feels like a lifeline.

How Sending a Postcard Can Help

The idea to send postcards as a way to connect came from that need. To remind each other that we are not alone. I created postcards because sometimes words matter most when they arrive out of nowhere; quietly, unexpectedly, unforced. A simple reminder: You are seen. You are loved.

Perhaps the person you send one to is feeling forgotten, too. Maybe they’re holding their breath through a hard day. Your small act of reaching out could remind them that they are not forgotten.

If You Feel Called to Reach Out… Do It

You may not know what someone is going through. Someone could be standing right next to you, appearing steady, while quietly falling apart inside.

If your heart nudges you to send a note, to write a verse, to say “I see you,” please do not ignore it. Your postcard could be the thread holding someone together when they feel like they are unraveling.

You Are Not Forgotten

Even when it feels like no one is there, even when the silence is deafening—
- You are not forgotten.
- You are not invisible.
- Your story still matters.

Sometimes, that truth needs to be carried on a small piece of paper. Delivered with love. To remind you, and someone else, that they are seen.
